Introducing the SHOC 2.0 Football Visor

Introducing the SHOC 2.0 Football Visor

Finally, the day we’ve all been waiting for is here and we have officially released the All-New SHOC 2.0 Lightning Football Visor! So why did we change from the previous Shoc 1.0 visor and create the Shoc Lightning version?

When we were designing the first SHOC visor Riddell had just released the 360 Speed. The 360 had a fairly closed face mask and so we configured the first SHOC visor to work with the 360’s smaller space, an added benefit of the shorter visor was we could get the visors to fit into lacrosse helmets. Which as a lacrosse family made us super excited!

Fast forward from design to the release of our first SHOC visor, about a month into our sales term Riddell decides to kill the Speed 360 and releases the new Speed Flex. A much different helmet than its older brother the Speed 360. The most noticeable difference, a very open face mask. Our first SHOC visor release fit the Speedflex, but unless you positioned it properly there could be a noticeable gap at the top of the helmet between the face mask and the visor. We got a lot of questions and comments on how it could fit the Speedflex better. So instead of sitting still, we listened to our customers and immediately started working on version two…

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT OUR VISOR FITTING GUIDE BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR 2.0 LIGHTNING VISOR.

The new version as you can see fits the Speedflex perfectly. The lines in the new SHOC lightning visor flow through to the helmets details. We believe we have created the perfect optical accessory for the Speedflex football helmet. We don’t believe you will find a better fitting visor for the Speedflex from any other visor brand currently.

A NEW DESIGN AND NEW SHAPE

One of the big changes you will immediately notice is the shape or curve of the new SHOC lightning football visor. There are only 3 current shapes that you will see in other brands of visors as well as our previous SHOC Visor. A cylinder shape which is most popular, a Sphere shape which closely resembles ski goggles and a funnel shape. Our new SHOC lightning football visor is a one of a kind curve shape that mirrors the shape of the most common face masks in the market. This provides the maximum distance from the face of the wearer and at the same time keeps the visor from over extending the face mask. Another side benefit of the more curved shape of the visor is its reflective properties more greatly feature our spectacular color line up.

With the implementation of this shape change, we had to perform a lot of lab testing to ensure optical clarity. One of the reasons we experienced a few delays during development. The issue is that when you curve an optical lens it can change your perspective due to….. dioptre? Through testing and reshaping of our mould, we were finally able to achieve perfect optical clarity with our new SHOC visor. The clarity of the lens will provide no detriment to the athlete’s vision. If you don’t get lens clarity perfect it can screw up your perception of the ball and greatly affect your game with great detriment.

A NEW COLOR RANGE FOR THE SHOC 2.0 LIGHTNING FOOTBALL VISOR
One of the other changes of the new release is the removal of a few colors from the SHOC visor line. Our previous color line up caused us endless quality problems as we had too many variations. A large number of variations made it too hard to stay within color limits. Our color quality control would swing in-between color tones and we would stock out of certain colors, and would continually frustrate our customers. We have tried to keep the most popular varieties, but unfortunately, if your favorite did not make the cut we apologize.

NEW VISOR CLIP ASSEMBLY | THE INDUSTRIES 1ST TRUE QUICK CLIP RELEASE
Last we focused on the clips of the SHOC lightning football visor. We were not satisfied with our first clips in our first SHOC visor. They were just a screw and a nut basically that bolts onto the facemask of the helmet. They were streamlined and easy to use, but not a true quick connect or disconnect from the helmet.

With many players in the NFL wearing a pregame visor and then swapping out for the game we wanted to improve our design to help equipment managers swap out quickly. Our goal was an integrated clip design that was truly fast operating and effective. The result is our all new patent pending industry first SHOC clip system. No screws no tools just a clip and a quick release button built into the visor.

The new clips are a very simple low profile design that keeps the focus on the SHOC visor, not the clips. At SHOC we rely on clean minimal design and let our product’s aesthetics and performance explain who we are. We are damn proud of our SHOC Logo and think it looks pretty darn good, but we decided to not make our visors a billboard for our brand and to let our design speak for itself. So this time no logos on our clips or the visors. We will still include our SHOC stickers with each visor, but we will leave it up to you guys on wearing them.

We are already molding a few extra shapes and colors of the clips. They won’t be too far off, so be on the lookout for them when they are released.
